Measure your foot in the evening with a thin sock on: the distance from your heel to your longest toe, in centimeters or inches — either field works, they stay in sync. Use the printable ruler below if you don't have a tape measure.
Quick answer To convert a shoe size, measure your foot length in centimeters and match it to the nearest row in the men's, women's, or kids' chart above — or pick a size you already know and every other system updates instantly. As a rule of thumb, EU size ≈ foot length (cm) × 1.5 + 2, and men's UK size ≈ men's US size − 0.5.

⚠️ Brand fit varies: This chart is a standard international reference (Mondopoint / ISO 9407 and the Paris-point EU system). Every brand uses its own last (shoe mold) — for example, some run about half a size small, others run large. For the most accurate fit, also check the cm measurements on the brand's own size chart. What is shoe size conversion, and how do US, EU, and UK sizes differ?

How to read US, EU, and UK shoe sizes, and how to find the right size from a foot-length measurement in centimeters.

A shoe size converter translates a size given in one country's system (for example, US) into the sizing used by other countries (EU, UK) and into a foot-length measurement in centimeters. Unlike EU sizing, which is a single scale for everyone, the US system uses separate men's and women's scales — so the same physical shoe can be labeled with two different US numbers depending on which section it's sold in. This tool keeps US sizing front and center, with EU, UK, and cm shown alongside it as reference columns, and treats men's, women's, and kids' sizing as three separate charts since their scales don't line up the same way.

How do I use this converter?

Quick answerPick a category above (men's, women's, or kids'). Select the size you already know in any column — US, EU, or UK — and the other systems update instantly. If you don't know your size, enter your foot length in centimeters instead; the tool finds your nearest size and tells you which size to pick if you land between two.
  • EU is based directly on foot length (the Paris-point system) and is the same for every gender.
  • US uses separate men's and women's scales — for the same foot, the women's number runs roughly 1.5-2 sizes larger than the men's number.
  • Kids' sizing is also based on foot length in cm; a child's age is only a rough guide, not a substitute for measuring.

What's the difference between US, EU, and UK sizes?

Quick answerEU size is single and gender-neutral. US size uses separate men's and women's scales — the women's US number is typically about 1.5-2 sizes larger than the men's US number for the same foot. UK size tracks close to men's US, usually about half a size smaller.

US and UK sizes both climb in relatively small numbers (6, 7, 8…), while EU sizes climb in larger numbers based directly on foot length (38, 39, 40…). Seeing "EU 42" and assuming it equals "US 42" is a common mistake — in reality, a men's EU 42 is about US 8.5.

How do you find your size from foot length (cm or inches)?

Quick answerMeasure the distance from your heel to the tip of your longest toe and enter it in either the Foot length (cm) or Foot length (in) field — both stay in sync automatically. As a rule of thumb: 24 cm (9.45 in) ≈ men's US 5.5, 26 cm (10.24 in) ≈ men's US 8, 27.5 cm (10.83 in) ≈ men's US 9.5. If your measurement lands between two sizes, the tool automatically tells you which one to choose based on your foot width.

What is JP (Japan / Mondopoint) sizing?

Quick answerJapanese shoe sizes use the Mondopoint system directly: the JP size is simply your foot length in millimeters, with no separate men's/women's scale. A 27.0 cm foot is JP 270. The JP/Mondopoint size is shown alongside every result and in each reference table below.

Brand fit notes: does it run small or large?

Every brand fits the same labeled size a little differently. General fit tendencies for popular brands (informational only; varies by model):

Runs small
NikeMany models run about half a size small; consider sizing up.
Runs small
PumaGenerally a touch narrower and smaller than standard.
True to size
AdidasUsually true to size with a standard fit.
True to size
VansUsually standard; some models fit slightly snug.
Roomy / wide
New BalanceRoomy fit with the most width options of major brands.
Runs large
Converse (Chuck Taylor)The classic Chuck Taylor typically runs about a size large.
Snug at first
Dr. MartensStiff leather feels tight initially; sizing up half a size is common advice.

Printable foot-measuring ruler

Print the ruler at 100% scale (turn off "Fit to page"), place your foot on it, and read the centimeter mark at your longest toe.

📐 Calibration: The rectangle below the ruler is the width of a standard credit/ID card (8.56 cm, ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1). After printing, lay a card over the rectangle — if it fits exactly, your printer scale is correct; if not, set print scale to 100% and print again.

In-depth guides

Step-by-step help for measuring your foot and reading these charts correctly.

👣 How to measure your foot length at home
  1. Measure in the evening — feet swell during the day, so a morning measurement tends to read small.
  2. Place a sheet of paper on a hard floor or against a wall; stand on it with a thin sock and your full weight.
  3. Holding a pen upright, mark the very back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe.
  4. Measure between the two marks with a ruler, to the nearest millimeter. Measure both feet and use the larger one.
  5. Enter the cm value into the "Foot length" field above. We suggest 0.5-1 cm of extra room for comfort; add a bit more for running shoes.

Example: a foot measuring 27.0 cm lands at a standard-width men's US 9 (EU 42.5, UK 8.5) or women's US 11 (EU 42, UK 9).

🧒 Kids' shoe sizes: age or foot length?

Just like adult sizing, a kids' shoe size is based on foot length in centimeters — age is only a rough guide, since children of the same age can have foot lengths that differ by a few centimeters.

  1. Have your child stand on a sheet of paper, barefoot or in a thin sock.
  2. Measure the distance from heel to longest toe with a ruler.
  3. Enter that value in the Kids' tab's "Foot length" field to get the nearest US/EU/UK size.

Growing feet change fast — re-measuring every 2-3 months is a good habit during growth spurts.

📐 Using the printable ruler correctly

In your browser's print dialog, turn off "Fit to page" and set the scale to 100% — otherwise the printer may shrink the page and the ruler will read the wrong size.

After printing, place a standard credit or ID card over the calibration rectangle below the ruler. If it fits exactly, your printout is at true scale; if not, adjust the print scale and print again.

Shoe size terms glossary

Short definitions of the terms used throughout this converter and its reference charts.

Mondopoint (ISO 9407) / JPAn international shoe-sizing system based on foot length in millimeters — used directly as the Japan (JP) size, e.g. 27 cm = JP 270.
Paris pointThe unit behind European (EU) sizing; each unit is roughly 2/3 cm.
WidthThe shoe's width measurement: narrow (B/D), medium (D/M), wide (2E/W). Fit can vary even at the same length size.
LastThe foot-shaped mold a shoe is built on. Different brands use different lasts, so identical sizes can feel different.
Men's-women's US gapFor the same physical foot, the women's US number typically runs about 1.5-2 sizes larger than the men's US number.
Brannock deviceThe metal foot-measuring tool used in shoe stores; measures length and width together.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a shoe size?
Enter a size you already know in the tool above — US, EU, or UK — and every other system updates instantly. If you don't know your size, measure your foot length in centimeters and enter it in the Foot length field; the tool finds your nearest US, EU, and UK size for men's, women's, or kids'. As a rule of thumb, EU size ≈ foot length (cm) × 1.5 + 2.
What's the difference between US, EU, and UK shoe sizes?
EU sizing is a single, gender-neutral scale based directly on foot length (the Paris-point system) — the same physical foot gets the same EU number no matter which section it's sold in. The US uses separate men's and women's scales instead: for the same foot, the women's US number typically runs 1.5 to 2 sizes larger than the men's US number. UK sizing tracks closely with men's US sizing — subtract about 0.5 from a men's US size to get UK, or about 2 from a women's US size. Example: a men's US 9 is EU 42.5 and UK 8.5.
What is EU 40 in US sizes?
In men's sizing, EU 40 is about US 7 (UK 6.5, roughly 25 cm). In women's sizing, the same physical length is about US 9 (UK 7, roughly 25.1 cm) — the two scales differ by about two sizes for an equivalent foot.
How do I measure my foot length at home?
Measure in the evening (feet swell during the day) wearing a thin sock. Stand on a sheet of paper against a wall with your full weight, then mark the back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe. Measure the distance between the marks to the nearest millimeter, measure both feet, and use the larger measurement. Enter that value in centimeters into the Foot length field above.
How do kids' shoe sizes work — by age or by foot length?
Like adult sizing, a child's shoe size is based on foot length in centimeters, not age — age is only a rough guide, since children of the same age can have foot lengths that differ by a few centimeters. Measuring your child's current foot length and using the chart is far more reliable than guessing from age, and it's worth re-measuring every 2-3 months during growth spurts.
What is the UK equivalent of a US shoe size?
For men's sizing, subtract about 0.5 from the US size to get the UK size (e.g., men's US 9 ≈ UK 8.5). For women's sizing, subtract about 2 (e.g., women's US 8 ≈ UK 6). UK and US sizes both run on smaller numbers than EU, which is based directly on foot length in centimeters.
My foot falls between two sizes — which one should I pick?
If your foot length falls between two sizes, the larger size is usually the safer choice, especially if your foot is wide or you plan to wear thicker socks. The smaller size can work for a snugger, athletic fit if your foot is narrow to average width. When in doubt, check the specific brand's own size chart, since fit varies by the shoe's last (mold). The tool above gives you this advice automatically based on your foot length and width.
How do men's and women's US shoe sizes compare?
For the same physical foot, the women's US number is typically 1.5 to 2 sizes larger than the men's US number (rule of thumb: men's size ≈ women's size − 1.5 to 2). For example, a women's US 8 is roughly equivalent to a men's US 6.5, and both are about EU 38.5-39 — useful to know when shopping for unisex sneakers.
Do these size charts apply to every brand?
No — these are standard reference charts (based on the Mondopoint/ISO 9407 and Paris-point systems), not brand-specific measurements. Every brand uses its own last (shoe mold); for example, some run about half a size small, others run large. Whenever possible, cross-check the converted size against the brand's own foot-length measurements before buying. This tool is for informational purposes and is not a purchase guarantee.
What is my shoe size in Japan (JP) sizing?
Japanese (JP) shoe sizes use the Mondopoint system directly: the size number is simply your foot length in millimeters. A foot measuring 27.0 cm is JP 270 — no separate men's/women's scale involved. This tool shows the JP/Mondopoint size next to every US/EU/UK result and in each reference table, so you can shop Japanese and other Asian brands with confidence.

Methodology & sources

ToolPico's Shoe Size Converter is a free, independent tool. Conversion values are based on widely published international shoe-sizing standards: the Mondopoint (ISO 9407) and Paris-point (EU) relationship, and the common "1.5-2 size" rule for the men's-women's US gap. Width codes follow the Brannock (US shoe industry) classification. Charts assume standard width and are current as of July 2026. Brand fit notes reflect general tendencies and can vary by model or collection.

This tool is free and independent, provided for informational purposes only; always check the specific brand's own size chart for an exact fit. Last updated: July 21, 2026.
