What was just added to the converter?

Until now, the converter's Today panel covered three things: today's Hijri date, today's Gregorian date, and the current Hijri month's progress. Useful, but it stopped short of answering two questions visitors kept needing a second tool for: "how far along is the Hijri calendar overall?" and "how many days until the next big date on it?" The new row answers both without leaving the page.
Practically, this means if you land on the converter just to check the date, you now also see, at a glance, roughly how much runway is left before the next Ramadan or Eid — instead of having to switch to the Islamic holidays lookup, guess the right Hijri year, and manually subtract dates yourself.
What does the "Years since the Hijra" figure show?
Quick answerIt's the current Hijri year, framed as a running count from year one. The Hijra — the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina — took place in 622 CE, and every Hijri year since has been counted forward from that starting point. The new box surfaces that count directly, with a short supporting line underneath for context.
This is a calendar-wide number, not a personal one — it doesn't need your birth date or any input at all. If today happens to fall in Hijri year 1448 AH, for example, the box would read something in that range: 1,448 Hijri years since the Hijra. (Treat any specific year mentioned here as illustrative; the box itself always reflects the real, live current date.)
Not the same as a Hijri age. "Years since the Hijra" is a property of the calendar as a whole. A personal Hijri age — how old a specific person is, counted in Hijri years — is a separate calculation the converter's Hijri age & birthday tool already handled before this update; the two figures answer different questions and shouldn't be confused.
How does the live Ramadan/Eid countdown badge work?
Quick answerThe highlighted box on the right of the new row is labeled dynamically — it points to whichever comes soonest of the start of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, or Eid al-Adha, and shows a running day count down to it. Once that observance passes, the badge automatically re-targets the next one, so it's always pointing forward.
Under the hood, this uses the same arithmetic Hijri machinery as the rest of the converter: today's Hijri date is calculated, the relevant upcoming observance date is derived from it, and the day gap between the two is computed live in your browser. Nothing is hardcoded to a single year and nothing is fetched from a server — reload the page any day of the year and the badge reflects that day's actual position on the calendar.
Illustrative example only: imagine loading the page in early Sha'ban, a few weeks before Ramadan is due to begin. The badge's label would read something like "Next: Ramadan," and its number would show the count of days remaining until 1 Ramadan arrives on the Gregorian calendar. Once Ramadan starts, the same badge would flip forward to count down to Eid al-Fitr instead, and so on through the Hijri year. The exact day counts depend entirely on the date you load the page, so don't treat any single number above as fixed.
